Romantic Honeymoon Destinations: Spotlight On California Wine Country
Looking for romantic honeymoon destinations? Go to wine country! There are several wonderful wineries in California, and Carlene and her husband spent a wonderful wine country honeymoon in Santa Ana where they had a comfortable and affordable stay while sampling some of the best reviewed wines and foods!
My husband and I wanted to go on a romantic honeymoon but we were just starting out and didn’t want to spend our life savings on a honeymoon. We decided to honeymoon in wine country in California. Neither my husband nor I could think of an area that was more romantic. We were married in the fall, so it was somewhat during the “off” season. We wanted to visit Sonoma, but to save some money we got a room at a charming little Bed and Breakfast in Santa Ana. It was actually perfect because we got to enjoy the beautiful scenery and enjoy each other’s company during the half hour drive every day. There are dozens and dozens of wineries to visit and to enjoy wine tastings. Some of the wineries are owned and operated by the best-known wine makers. Some wineries offer free wine tastings or offer a two-for-one deal, so be sure to check for special deals. The wineries and vineyards are breathtakingly beautiful, and they are everywhere. You can just drive around and chances are you’ll just run into a vineyard around the next bend. The restaurants are amazing in this area. There are so many award-winning chefs in the area. I would recommend spending the extra money on a hot air balloon ride. The view over wine country is unbelievable; it seems that the vineyards go on forever. And it’s so romantic. It was definitely one of the highlights of our honeymoon. We spent under $2000 for our entire week-long honeymoon, which we thought, was an outstanding deal. The largest amount we spent was on our room at the Bed and Breakfast. Many of the wine tastings were free and we found great deals on our meals at some five star restaurants. If you dine early you get a better deal. I would highly recommend honeymooning in Wine Country and you could probably spend even less than we did and still have a wonderful time.
