Hotel Casa de Campo

If you’re an avid golfer and you want to do some golf on your honeymoon as well as enjoy all the other great experiences of a Caribbean cruise, it can happen at the Casa de Campo resort! It has amazing golf courses as well as a marina! Derek talks about how he and his wife spent their honeymoon hitting the green and the seas, while enjoying all you expect from an island resort!

My new wife and I went for our honeymoon after our September wedding last year to the Dominican Republic. We are both avid golfers and love sailing and we heard of a resort from some friends called Casa de Campo that had both a golf course as well as a Marina. We flew down via American Airlines, and it was a rather pleasant journey as far as flying goes. Entry into the Dominican Republic was rather effortless. We were then picked up at the airport by a resort transport and taken to the resort. It took about an hour to get there while driving past the great scenery of amazingly beautiful blue ocean on the right and green countryside on the left. We were received very cordially and given our “house” keys and our golf cart keys. When we reached our rented house (where we stayed for 8 days!) we were totally blown away. I had been skeptical at first about renting a house but I was pleasantly surprised when we actually arrived at a huge 3 bedroom house with a pool, kitchen, and a huge 72″ plasma screen (one of the days was Sunday, and I couldn’t miss my Giants playing at home). The golf course, called the “Dogs Tooth”, is beautiful and is right next to the coast line. If you slice your ball to the left, you actually end up splashing it into the ocean! The difficulty level of the course is probably around a 6 – 7 on scale of 10. The meals at the resort were included in our package; we could pick any of the restaurants on the grounds of the resort. However there was a small art college town 3 minutes away by car or golf cart that had a very Italian look to it with several very good and rather inexpensive restaurants that were very nice. The beach wasn’t too impressive, as it was rather small and almost completely devoid of people (which actually was not a bad thing). What I noticed was that the resort itself is also a community of privately owned homes inhabited by rich locals and several international celebrities; the only name I personally recognized was Shakira. The marina was great, with several restaurants and very nice little ice cream shop where you could sit and watch the sunset while you had some Italian Ice. It had the most beautiful collection of yachts I had ever seen. The sailing was not as good as the golfing, but still worth it. The sailing trip happened on the third day and it took us around several great points where the view was fantastic. The cost of the sailing trip was included in our package. There were other amenities included in our package as well. One was the well equipped gym that I went to on three different occasions. There was also a sauna and spa that my wife took advantage of along with the Hair and Nail studio. Some of the things I saw but didn’t take advantage of were: a complete set of water sport activities; an art museum that we didn’t have to time to get too; A sort of water landing airplane trip; horseback riding; a shooting range where you could shoot clay pigeons with shotguns; several hiking trips; and a guided tour of the nearby Spanish colonial town were the art college is located. The total cost of the trip was just under $6000, including extra money we spent on souvenirs and such. The cost was completely worth it for a 8-day honeymoon that we will remember for our entire lives.
